Adapted Physical Education

Adapted Physical Education services at SEARCH Day Program challenges students of varying abilities to reach their highest potential in the area of physical fitness and wellness. Students learn both foundational and advanced sports skills relating to basketball, baseball, soccer and swimming. Social interaction and teamwork with peers is emphasized as students participate in both sport and recreational activities designed to build strength, stamina, endurance and coordination. Adapted teaching techniques are used to help students achieve success when learning skills associated with sports and recreation. Providing students with a positive experience during physical education activities assists in promoting an improved sense of self-confidence and self-esteem.

Our aquatics program focuses on developing both safety skills and swim skills. Consistent routines are used both to promote safety when entering and exiting the pool area and when teaching students the swim strokes involved in attaining basic survival skills. Once basic survival are attained, students may then participate in activities to facilitate the development of fundamental swim strokes.
